1. Draw light, soft, lines (6 Feb 2022)
The first drawing isn’t a finished drawing. When we examine master drawings, we would usually notice light, soft lines. These light lines are initial attempts at form, and allow for adjustments along the way. The lighter the line, the more the opportunities to adjust the form. The darker lines are then products of conscious decisions.
The outcome of this lesson was to draw many light, soft, lines such that I would naturally tend towards drawing a light line at the first touch of a drawing paper. I was using a mechanical pencil and immediately realised that no matter how light I drew, the lines were always too heavy for my liking. These were drawn using wooden pencils.
